Horseback riding

Experience the Park

Horseback riders are very welcome in the park. You can use the approximately 45-kilometer-long bridle path system with 13 junctions. You can start your ride at one of the three entrances.

Horseback riding is permitted on all paths in the park, except for the semi-paved trails (Berlage Walk, Experience Route, Landscape Path).

Please note: you will regularly encounter cattle grids during your hike. Never cross them; use the gate next to the cattle grid.

Seeing wildlife

There's a good chance of seeing big game (red deer, wild boar, roe deer, and mouflon) during a ride through De Hoge Veluwe National Park, as game is less likely to flee from people on horseback. From the bridle path between junctions 8 and 9 (along the west side of the Bosje van Staf), red deer can often be seen on the plain. But you also have a chance of encountering big game in other parts of the park, especially in the morning or late afternoon.

Horse-drawn carriages

You can also explore the Park by horse-drawn carriage. The bridle paths are less suitable for this, but you can take a trip on the Park's quiet paved roads.

Admission

  • When you enter the Park with your horse, you pay a fee for the horse in addition to your own entrance fee.
  • Visitors with a trailer pay for the car, but not for the horse in the trailer.
  • Annual Pass holders with a car/motorcycle can bring their horse free of charge.
  • Annual Pass holders without a car/motorcycle can purchase a ticket for the horse at the Park entrances.
  • Arriving in a covered wagon? For small covered wagons (with space for up to 8 people), you pay for one horse and all passengers. For a large covered wagon (with space for more than 8 people), you only pay for your companions. There is no charge for the horses in this case.

Parking

There are a number of parking spaces that are suitable for cars with trailers. They can be found at the 'Gymnasiumvallei', the large car park near Jachthuis Sint Hubertus, and the coach car parks in the Central Area. These places are marked on the detailed map you receive at the entrance. You can also park at other locations, as long as you do not obstruct traffic, roads or paths.

Hitching rails

On the map below you find hitching rails in the Park. They are marked with a horse's head. The hitching rails at Restaurant De Hoge Veluwe (centre), Jachthuis Sint Hubertus (north) and at Theehuis De Kemperberg (south) have water facilities.
